Suspect Arrested For Impersonating Inland Revenue Officer In Financial Fraud Scheme

COLOMBO (News 1st): A suspect who posed as an Inland Revenue Department officer to commit financial fraud has been arrested.

Police stated that a complaint regarding the suspect had recently been received by the Kompannavidiya Police Station. Acting on this, a team of officers from the Kompannavidiya Police arrested the suspect in Galgamuwa.

The individual taken into custody is a 50-year-old resident of Galgamuwa.

According to the police, the suspect had been posing as an officer of the Inland Revenue Department and making phone calls to various institutions that pay income taxes. He had reportedly requested money for personal needs and had those funds deposited into his bank accounts.

Police investigations have also revealed that the suspect had previously been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for similar acts of financial fraud.
