COLOMBO (News 1st); Rohitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has left the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Bureau after being questioned for over five hours in connection with an ongoing financial investigation.

Police stated that Rajapaksa, who arrived at the investigative unit at approximately 9:45 a.m., departed around 3:00 p.m. after providing a detailed statement to investigators.

He had been summoned to record a statement regarding an inquiry into an investment of 19 million rupees in two institutions located in the Mirihana area. The investigation originates from a complaint received by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

According to police, the complaint alleges that the investments were made between 2018 and 2021. Authorities are examining the source of the funds, as the complaint has raised questions about how such a sum of money was invested in two separate entities without a clearly identified source of income.

Following the submission of the complaint to the Bribery Commission, the matter was referred to the Inspector General of Police.

Subsequently, the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Bureau initiated a formal investigation into the allegations.
