COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's rising javelin sensation, Rumesh Tharanga, is continuing his remarkable ascent on the world stage, turning heads with performances that have placed him among the sport's elite.
The 23-year-old claimed a stunning victory at the Doha Diamond League, winning the men's javelin throw event with a distance of 88.68 metres.
Competing in only his second Diamond League appearance, Rumesh outshone some of the world's biggest names in the sport. Former World Champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished second with a throw of 85.99 metres, while American athlete Curtis Thompson placed third. Olympic and World Champion Neeraj Chopra had to settle for fourth place.
The victory marks another major milestone in a journey defined by determination, discipline and an unwavering belief in his abilities. Earlier this year, Rumesh produced the best throw of his career and the longest throw recorded in the world this season when he launched the javelin 92.62 metres at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome's Stadio Olimpico.
