COLOMBO (News 1st); As Sri Lanka prepares to commemorate Poson Poya,  a sacred day marking the introduction of Buddhism to the island by Arahat Mahinda Thero, a deeply spiritual and culturally significant celebration is set to unfold, bringing together devotion, reflection, and unity across the nation.

In keeping with this profound religious tradition, the Maharaja Media Network is preparing to present a unique and immersive spiritual experience to devotees, organising a series of large-scale religious programmes simultaneously across three sacred locations.

These programmes will be held under the theme “Sirasa Ruhunu Maya Poson Pooja,” a visionary initiative aimed at deepening religious awareness and bringing the essence of the Dhamma closer to the lives of the people.

The official launch of the 'Sirasa Ruhunu Maya Poson Pooja' took place this morning at the Stein Studio Complex in Ratmalana, in the presence of the Maha Sangha, symbolising blessings and spiritual guidance for the initiative.

The programme will be carried out at three key locations, Ramba Rajamaha Viharaya in Ambalantota, Saddharmalankara Vidyatanaya in Ratnapura, and the International Sri Angeerasa Buddhist Center in Mattala, transforming these sacred sites into vibrant centres of devotion during the Poson season.

At the historic Ramba Rajamaha Viharaya, the Sirasa Ramba Damsaviya Poson Zone will be held on June 29 and 30, offering devotees the opportunity to engage in religious observances and reflect upon the teachings of the Buddha in a spiritually enriched environment.

The Sirasa Minipura Poson Zone will take place at the Saddharmalankara Vidyatanaya in Ratnapura from June 29 to July 5, extending the period of devotion with a series of religious and cultural programmes designed to inspire faith and mindfulness.

Meanwhile, all arrangements have been finalised for the Sirasa Angeerasa Poson Zone at the International Sri Angeerasa Buddhist Center in Mattala, which will be held from June 27 to July 3, featuring a wide array of religious activities and spiritual offerings.

The launch was attended by senior representatives of the Capital Maharaja Group, including Group Director, Head of Electronic Media and Leader of Gammadda Chevaan Daniel, as well as MBC Chief Executive Officer Buddhi Wickramanayake.

Addressing the gathering, Venerable Waturakumbure Dhammaratana Thero, Chief Sanghanayake of the Ratnapura Maha Disawa, recalled the historical significance of such religious zones, stating, “About 15 years ago, the concept of Vesak zones, Poson zones and Esala zones was pioneered by Sirasa TV, and I recall this with great gratitude.”

He added that a sacred relic enshrinement ceremony will be held at the Sri Angeerasa  Stupa on June 27 at 3 PM., alongside a week-long programme of Poson lanterns, devotional offerings, meditation practices, live broadcasts, and Dhamma sermons.

Venerable Dampahala Seelananda Thero, Deputy Chief Sanghanayake of the Sabaragamuwa Province, emphasised the global significance of the initiative, stating, “This is not only for the people of Sri Lanka, but for Buddhists across the world, to understand the value, greatness, and spiritual essence of Poson.”

He also highlighted the inclusion of a Mihindu perahera procession, Poson decorations, devotional songs, and a range of cultural and religious elements.

Venerable Julampitiye Mangala Thero, Chief Secretary of the Hambantota District Shasanarakshaka Board, praised the network’s pioneering role, stating, “Sirasa has always been a pioneer in electronic media in this country.”

He further noted that the programme will include observance of Sil throughout Poson day, Dhamma sermons, discussions, and opportunities for devotees to venerate sacred relics, along with a special initiative to honour long-serving Dhamma school teachers across the Hambantota district.

Senior representatives of the Sirasa Media Network also shared their vision behind the programme.

News 1st Channel Head Suranga Senanayake stated, “We believe that the foundations of meaningful communication began with the teachings shared by Arahat Mahinda Thero to King Devanampiyatissa, and as a communication-driven institution, Poson holds deep significance for us.”

General Manager - Sales of MBC/News First, Roshan Wattawala, remarked, “This is both a moment of celebration and reverence, as such programmes play a vital role in spreading the light of the Buddha’s teachings and helping people integrate the Dhamma into their daily lives.”

Sirasa TV Director Dharma Sri Bandara Ekanayake highlighted the focus on youth, stating, “We are making a strong effort to bring young people into this journey, working together with a large group of young monks to carry forward a modern Buddhist revival.”

Director of Public Relations of the Capital Maharaja Group, Priyantha Wijesinghe, described the initiative as historic, adding, “For the first time in Sri Lanka, a media network will conduct Poson programmes simultaneously at three locations, creating a truly unique and immersive experience.”

As Poson continues to stand as a symbol of enlightenment, compassion, and the spread of Buddhist philosophy in Sri Lanka, the Sirasa Ruhunu Maya Poson Pooja 2026 is poised to become a landmark spiritual event, uniting devotees, strengthening faith, and bringing the timeless teachings of the Buddha closer to hearts and homes across the island.
