Dengue Cases Rise To 42,232 As 600 Patients Are Reported Daily

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Dengue Control Unit states that around 600 dengue patients are being reported daily.

Its Community Physician, Specialist Dr. Prashila Samaraweera, noted that the total number of reported cases has now risen to 42,232.

The number of reported deaths stands at 24.

Over 8,000 patients have been reported within the lapsed period of this month.

The island-wide Dengue Control Week, held in parallel with the National Dengue Control Program, is underway for its second consecutive day today.

In the face of a rapid increase in reported dengue cases, this Dengue Control Week is being implemented by the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government

Under the Dengue Control Week, mosquito control programs will be carried out in public places today and tomorrow.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who also took part in the Maharagama Dengue Control Programme, stated that special discussions will be held tomorrow in 14 high-risk districts as dengue cases continue to rise.

She noted that the meetings will be held at the respective District Secretariats under the leadership of District Secretaries, with the participation of officials from the Grama Niladhari level upwards as well as district health authorities, on the instructions of the Ministry of Health.

She added that the discussions will focus on reviewing the progress of ongoing mosquito control programmes and analysing dengue case data to enable swift action.
