COLOMBO (News 1st): Steps have been taken to open 23 regional offices of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The Director General of the Commission, Ranga Dissanayake, stated that these offices will be opened by December this year.

These offices are scheduled to carry out a range of functions, including accepting complaints and filing action.

The Director General explained that, at present, members of the public are forced to travel to Colombo to lodge complaints and provide evidence.

He stated that the establishment of regional offices will eliminate these difficulties faced by the public.

A total of 971 officers are scheduled to be allocated to the newly established regional branches of the bribery comission.

This includes a team of legal officers.

The Director General further stated that they are currently searching for buildings and locations to open these offices.
