COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Secretariat for Elders states that the elders' allowance for the month of May can be obtained through post offices starting next Monday.
Its director, Chathura Mihidum, said that measures have been taken to promptly include these elders into the Welfare Benefits Board's database and make payments through Aswasuma accounts.
He mentioned that the elders' allowance is paid in two ways.
Chathura Mihidum stated that for elders in families receiving Aswasuma benefits from the Welfare Benefits Board, payments are made through their Aswasuma bank accounts. He noted that the payments for them were made on the 29th of last month.
The director further said that for elders from low-income families who do not have Aswasuma accounts or whose payments are withheld due to account discrepancies, the elders' allowance will be paid through post offices on the 15th of every month.
