Over 6,200 Dengue Larvae Sites Found in Nationwide Crackdown

COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Dengue Control Unit stated that 6,268 premises containing dengue mosquito larvae were identified during a three-day dengue eradication programme.

During the three days, 25,626 high-risk premises where dengue mosquitoes could breed were also identified.

The National Dengue Control Unit further stated that 97,871 premises were inspected during the programme.

The operation was carried out on the 8th, 9th, and 10th across 72 Medical Officer of Health divisions in 14 districts where high dengue transmission has been reported.

The highest percentage of dengue larvae was identified in factories and construction sites. According to the unit, 32.9 percent of inspected factory premises and 21.8 percent of construction sites were found to contain dengue mosquito larvae.

The number of residential premises where dengue larvae were detected stood at 5,250.

The National Dengue Control Unit also stated that measures were taken to clean 21,025 premises identified as potential mosquito breeding sites during those days.

A total of 3,348 red notices with legal instructions were issued to premises found in violation.

Legal action was taken against 2,401 individuals who owned premises where dengue mosquito larvae were detected, the National Dengue Control Unit said.

The Ministry of Health urges the public to maintain clean surroundings and actively contribute to creating an environment free from dengue mosquitoes.
