COLOMBO (News 1st); The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sharda arrived at the Port of Colombo on June 10, 2026, for an Operational Turnaround visit.

In keeping with long-standing naval traditions, the Sri Lanka Navy extended a ceremonial welcome to the visiting vessel upon its arrival, reflecting the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.

INS Sharda, a Sukanya-class Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), is commanded by Commander Kartik Sachdeva. During its stay in Sri Lanka from June 10 to June 13, the vessel and its crew are scheduled to participate in a series of engagements organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, aimed at fostering camaraderie, enhancing professional collaboration, and promoting mutual understanding between the two maritime forces.

As part of its operational purpose, the visit also includes the transshipment of essential stores from the Indian Army intended for Sri Lanka Army personnel deployed on a United Nations mission.

These items are set to be formally handed over during a ceremony at the Ministry of Defence on June 16.

During the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Sharda, Commander Kartik Sachdeva, is scheduled to call on the Commander of the Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral S.J. Kumara.

In addition to official engagements, the ship’s crew will take part in professional exchanges as well as friendly sports interactions with personnel of the Sri Lanka Navy, strengthening interpersonal ties and operational synergy.

Highlighting cultural and wellness diplomacy, a joint yoga session has also been planned between the crew of INS Sharda and Sri Lanka Navy personnel, in line with the upcoming International Day of Yoga.

Beyond official duties, members of the Indian Navy are also expected to explore several of Sri Lanka’s renowned tourist attractions, offering them a glimpse into the island’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

The visit of INS Sharda presents India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy and aligns with the vision of “Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR),” championed by the Indian leadership.
