COLOMBO (News 1st) – Gammadda, an initiative that always stands with the people, for the people, is set to fulfill a long-standing need of students at the Dikkgalpura Primary School in Medirigiriya, Polonnaruwa.
A reverse osmosis water purification system will be donated at the school for the benefit of students of the Dikkgalpura Primary School as well as residents in the surrounding Dikkgalpura village.
Around 200 students at the school has long struggled with a lack of safe drinking water.
Although water is drawn from a well using a motor system, authorities say it is not suitable for consumption due to high salinity levels.
At present, villagers must travel nearly five kilometres to access clean drinking water facilities.
Following a request submitted to Gammadda and a subsequent field assessment, the project was selected for implementation as part of its community development initiatives.
The project has been financially supported by Ms. Manthree Amarasinha from Borella.
A long-standing problem of safe drinking water will be resolved for both students and the surrounding community in Dikkgalpura today.
