Suspect Arrested for Facilitating People to Travel Overseas Illegally

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A suspect who allegedly facilitated three people from Jaffna to illegally travel to Canada has been remanded. 

The suspect was remanded until the 19th of June. 

He was remanded after being produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court.

The suspect was arrested in Kilinochchi by the Human Trafficking, Smuggling and Maritime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.

It has been reported that the three individuals from Jaffna, who left Sri Lanka en route to Canada via Ethiopia, were taken hostage by an organised criminal gang operating in Ethiopia.
