Former US Cutter Becomes SLNS Samudravijaya

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka marked a significant milestone in strengthening its maritime defence capabilities as the vessel P-628 Samudravijaya, gifted by the Government of the United States, was formally commissioned into the Sri Lanka Navy under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The commissioning ceremony, held in line with longstanding naval traditions, officially brought the vessel into active service.

The vessel, formerly known as the USCGC Decisive, is a B-Type Reliance Class 210-foot cutter, measuring approximately 64 metres in length. 

Renamed SLNS Samudravijaya, the ship is designed for extended maritime operations and is capable of covering a minimum range of 6,000 nautical miles at cruising speed in a single deployment.
