COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Health states that around 250 patients suspected of having meningitis have been reported from several areas of the island so far.
Community Medicine Specialist of the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Harendra Dasanayake, noted that patients have been reported from Deniyaya, Rikillagaskada, Diyatalawa, Welimada, and Kandy areas.
Currently, fewer than 50 of those patients are hospitalized and receiving treatment.
Dr. Harendra Dassanayake, Consultant Community Physician, stated that the meningitis disease spreading these days has been identified as being caused by a virus belonging to the Enterovirus group.
Accordingly, Dr. Harendra Dassanayake added that proper health habits should be followed to prevent contracting the disease.
