COLOMBO (News 1st); The Jaffna Magistrate’s Court has granted permission for former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to provide evidence via an online platform in connection with the Lalith-Kugan disappearance case.

The order relates to a case filed by the relatives of two missing individuals, Lalith Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan, who were reported disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

The case was taken up today before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court, where the request for remote testimony by the former President was considered and approved.

In 2019, the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court had issued notices to Gotabaya Rajapaksa during his tenure as former Defence Secretary, in connection with the same case.

Human rights activists Lalith Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganandan went missing on December 9, 2011, in Jaffna, in an incident that has since remained a matter of significant public and legal concern.
