COLOMBO (News 1st): Police said that two of the 21 suspects deported to Sri Lanka from Dubai were individuals for whom Interpol Red Notices had been issued.
The suspects linked to organised criminal activities was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake yesterday.
Among those taken into custody are six individuals who had previously been accused of various offences.
The suspects are alleged to have been involved in crimes including drug trafficking, shootings and murders, fraud, criminal breach of trust and assault.
Police stated that the group had initially arrived in Sri Lanka on a flight that was diverted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport due to adverse weather conditions
The arrests were made after the same flight later proceeded to Katunayake, where authorities detained the suspects upon arrival.
Investigations into the suspects and their alleged criminal links are currently underway, police added.
Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, said the suspects will be handed over to the Central Crimes Division and the Colombo Crime Division for further investigations.
