79-Year-Old Found Dead in Bedroom Suitcase

COLOMBO (News 1st) -A 79-year-old woman has been found murdered inside her home in the Mookalangamuwa area of Seeduwa, with her body discovered concealed in a travelling bag placed inside a bedroom.

Police stated that investigations were launched following information received about a foul odour emanating from the house. Upon inspection, officers uncovered the woman’s body hidden inside the bag.

The deceased has been identified as a 79-year-old resident of the area who had been living alone in the house.

Initial investigations have revealed signs of deliberate tampering at the scene. Police found that the CCTV cameras installed at the house had been removed, while the telephone line had been cut.

Further inquiries into the incident have indicated that the woman had been strangled to death.

A magisterial inquiry into the death and the post-mortem examination of the body are scheduled to be carried out today.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder, identified as a neighbour residing in close proximity to the victim’s home. 

Authorities stated that the suspect was identified through investigations conducted using CCTV footage obtained from nearby houses.
