Investigation Launched After Polgahawela-Kalutara Train Derails; 10 Hospitalized

COLOMBO (News 1st);A special team, including two engineers, has been deployed to investigate the derailment of a South Kalutara-bound train near the Wanawasala railway station early this morning.

According to the General Manager of Railways, Ravindra Padmapriya, the probe into the incident is already underway.

The local train, which was traveling from Polgahawela, saw one of its carriages completely overturn off the tracks during the derailment. Ten passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital.

Meanwhile, the Railway Department warns commuters to expect delays on the Main Line as a result of the accident.
