Sanath Nishantha’s Brother Found Guilty on Three Charges, Sentenced to Prison

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Chilaw High Court today (15) sentenced Jagath Samantha, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member of the Arachchikattuwa Pradeshiya Sabha and brother of former State Minister Sanath Nishantha, to five and a half years of imprisonment.

The judgment was delivered by Chilaw High Court Judge Nayomi Wickramasekara.

Samantha was found guilty on three charges realating to an incident that occurred on November 24, 2008, at the Karukkuliya Jayathilinaramaya Temple.

The charges included obstructing the official duties of then Arachchikattuwa Divisional Secretary Danasena Soorasinghe, unlawful assembly, and attempting to assault.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court also ordered Samantha to pay Rs. 1 million as compensation to the Divisional Secretary involved in the case.
