COLOMBO (News 1st); The official welcoming ceremony for Vietnamese President To Lam, who arrived in Sri Lanka on a state visit, will be held this afternoon.
The ceremony will take place at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
President To Lam arrived in the country last night at the invitation of the Sri Lankan President.
The visit marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
Notably, this is the first visit by a Vietnamese President to Sri Lanka in 15 years.
Following the official welcome, the two Presidents are scheduled to hold bilateral discussions.
The Presidential Media Division stated that several Memorandums of Understanding are also expected to be signed, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen cooperation in a number of sectors.
The two leaders are then expected to issue a joint press statement.
President To Lam is also scheduled to pay floral tributes at the Ho Chi Minh Statue located at the Colombo Public Library and view a historical photo exhibition on Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh.
The Vietnamese President is also expected to address the Sri Lankan Parliament with a special speech this morning.
During the visit, President To Lam will hold discussions with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne and several other political representatives.
He is also scheduled to attend a photo exhibition in Colombo showcasing the bilateral ties and cultural identity shared between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, along with an exhibition featuring Vietnamese products, traditional handicrafts and modern industrial goods.
In addition, President To Lam is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Sri Lanka-Vietnam Trade, Investment and Tourism Forum.
The official launch of direct flight services between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, operated by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air, as well as the exchange of related agreements, will also take place during the forum.
