Rajanganaye Thero Taken Into Custody in Early-Morning Arrest

COLOMBO (News 1st); Venerable Rajanganaye Saddharatana Thero was arrested early this (8) morning on suspicion of making threats via social media, police said.

According to police, the arrest followed an investigation into alleged threats made through social media platforms targeting Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala, Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Kithsiri Jayalath, and Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala.

Officers of the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau carried out the arrest at a temple located in Shravastipura.
