Over 4,700 Drivers Charged for Drug Use in Past Four Months

COLOMBO (News 1st);The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, said that the number of motorists driving under the influence of drugs has risen sharply.

The DIG revealed that within the last four months, legal action has been filed against 4,750 drivers arrested for drug-impaired driving. 

He noted that this figure represents a significant increase compared to previous years.

Furthermore, he mentioned that continuous operations are being carried out to identify drivers involved in passenger transport who are using drugs, utilizing the mobile laboratory of the National Transport Medical Institute.
