COLOMBO (News 1st): Member of Parliament Ramanathan Archuna, who was in remand custody, has been released on bail after being produced before the Mallakam Magistrate's Court today.
He was arrested by the Ilavalai Police in Jaffna following a complaint involving charges of criminal intimidation and verbal threats under the Firearms Ordinance.
The arrest took place when he arrived at the Ilavalai Police Station to provide a statement in connection with an incident in which a woman was allegedly threatened using a firearm.
The incident stemmed from a dispute with a woman over a plot of land, and a video circulating on social media appeared to show the Member of Parliament brandishing a firearm during the argument.
