Daren Tang to Continue as WIPO Director General Through 2032 Term

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Daren Tang, a national of Singapore, has been reappointed as the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for a second term.

His new term will run from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2032. He originally began his first six-year mandate on October 1, 2020.

Following his re-election today, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) extended its congratulations to Tang. 

MTV Channel Pvt Ltd, an Administrative Council member of the ABU, represented the organization at this important international event.

Before taking up his role at WIPO, Tang served in several senior positions within the Government of Singapore. 

His final post prior to joining WIPO was Chief Executive of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), where he played a key role in strengthening the country’s intellectual property framework.

WIPO, a United Nations specialized agency, is responsible for promoting the protection of intellectual property worldwide through cooperation among states and international organizations.

Daren Tang’s reappointment reflects continued global confidence in his leadership in advancing innovation, creativity, and intellectual property systems across the world.
