COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation has initiated a structured program to ensure fuel supply for container trucks engaged in transportation, aiming to reduce congestion at Port of Colombo.
Minister Anura Karunathilake said that the move is intended to speed up the clearance of imported containers and ensure the timely delivery of export goods to the port, safeguarding the country’s export revenue.
As part of the initiative, the ministry has collected comprehensive data on container trucks, including QR code registration details, to facilitate efficient fuel distribution.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Container Transport Owners Association, Sanath Manjula said that data for 1,325 container vehicles has already been submitted through the Department of Government Information.
He further noted that the Minister has agreed to provide the required fuel for these vehicles within the coming week, offering relief to transport operators and helping streamline port operations.
