Wanted Criminal ‘Podi Lassi’ To Be Handed Over To Galle Crimes Division After Year-Long Evasion

COLOMBO (News 1st); Organized criminal Janith Madushanka de Silva, alias "Podi Lassi," who was brought back to the island, is scheduled to be handed over to the Galle District Crimes Division today.

Police Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, says that he will be produced for legal proceedings in the near future. 

Organized criminal Janith Madushanka de Silva, alias "Podi Lassi," was brought back to the island this morning.

He was escorted by a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who had traveled to India.

Police says that he is considered a criminal involved in numerous offenses, including Murder, drug trafficking, and extortion.

He had been evading the court for a year despite an open warrant issued by the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court for his arrest.

Podi Lassi was arrested in Mumbai, India, on January 16, 2025.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) had recently made a formal request to India to hand him over to Sri Lanka.
