Vijitha To Chair Committee on Provincial Council Framework

COLOMBO (News 1st); A special parliamentary committee appointed to study and recommend the appropriate mechanism for conducting the Provincial Council system was named by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

According to the announcement, Foreign Affairs Minister Wijitha Herath has been appointed as the Chair of the committee.

The committee consists of 11 Members of Parliament. They are:

Ranjith Madduma Bandara
Mano Ganesan
Shanakiyan Rasamanickam
Lakshman Nipunarachchi
Samanmalee Gunasinghe
Dharmapriya Wijesinghe
Chandana Sooriyarachchi
President’s Counsel Nizam Kariapper

The committee has been tasked with examining how the Provincial Council system should function in the future and presenting recommendations to Parliament.
