COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court ordered that the pre‑trial conference in the case filed against former minister Namal Rajapaksa over the alleged misuse of Rs. 70 million received from India’s Krrish Company be held on April 2.

The order was issued by Colombo High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Suwadurugoda when the case was taken up before her this morning.

After reviewing submissions, the judge set April 2 as the date for the pre‑trial conference.

The Attorney General filed indictments against Rajapaksa on February 5 last year, accusing him of misappropriating Rs. 70 million that had been obtained from Krrish Company, claiming it was intended for the promotion of rugby in Sri Lanka.

The indictment followed investigations carried out by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID), prompted by a complaint lodged in 2016 by Wasantha Samarasinghe, the convener of the Voice Against Corruption organisation.

Rajapaksa was previously named a suspect in the case and was taken into custody.

He was later released on bail after being produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court.

The case will be taken up again in April for further proceedings.
