COLOMBO(News 1st); It has been decided to temporarily stop pension payments to beneficiaries who have not collected their farmers’ pensions for more than six consecutive months.
A total of 179,215 farmers receive monthly pensions from the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board.
Pensions are also paid to 6,381 fishermen.
Out of them, about 6,105 have not collected their pensions for more than six months.
The decision to temporarily suspend these pensions was taken to prevent possible financial irregularities and corruption.
The Ministry of Agriculture said that if it is confirmed that the relevant person is alive, the monthly pension will be paid as usual, along with any unpaid arrears.
