COLOMBO (News 1st): In a landmark move to bolster the national economy and promote Sri Lanka as a premier international destination for remote work, the Department of Immigration and Emigration announced the launch of the new Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) category for foreign professionals.
Accordingly, the Digital Nomad Visa is open for professionals and entrepreneurs who wish to live and work remotely from the country while serving clients abroad.
Any foreign national over the age of 18, along with their spouse and dependents, can apply for Visa under this catergory.
The applicant must be employed by or own a business registered outside of Sri Lanka.
Principal Applicant must remit a minimum of USD 2,000 per month in foreign currency to Sri Lanka.
If there are more than two dependents, an additional USD 500 per month must be remitted for each additional person.
Additonally, Applicants must submit several documents, including Police Clearance Reports, international health insurance, and a recommendation from the Ministry of Digital Economy.
The fee per annum per person is USD 500 and the visa is valid for a period of one year.
Upon renewal after one year, tax registration with the Department of Inland Revenue is mandatory.
