Gunmen Identified in Akuregoda Double Murder; Special Operations Underway to Arrest Suspects

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police say the gunmen involved in the Akuregoda double homicide have now been identified.

Investigating officers stated that special operations have been launched to apprehend the suspects.

So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, two of whom are members of the same family. They have been taken into custody on charges of providing accommodation to the gunmen, transporting firearms, and supplying narcotics.

Meanwhile, the vehicle suspected to have been used by the assailants, later discovered torched in Baddegama, is scheduled to be produced before the Government Analyst today for further forensic examination.

Attorney-at-law Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his wife were shot dead last Friday afternoon in Akuregoda, Talangama.

Police suspect that the shooting was orchestrated by organized crime figure 'Karandeniya Sudda.' 

Police added that the slain attorney had previously represented the alleged crime figure in several court cases.

The final rites of Attorney Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his wife were conducted last evening.
