Iran Is A Responsible & Influential Actor: Envoy Outlines Global Vision

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sri Lanka, Dr. Alireza Delkhosh, laid out Iran’s view of its global role, its advancements at home, and its response to one of the most turbulent periods in its recent history.

Speaking to a gathering of diplomats and invited guests at the 47th Anniversary of the Victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran in Colombo, Dr. Delkhosh presented Iran as a nation that sees itself not only as a participant but as an influential and independent actor shaping regional and international dynamics.

Dr. Delkhosh stated that Iran has consistently aligned itself with dialogue, multilateralism, and cooperation, describing these principles as core to the country’s foreign policy identity.

He emphasized that Iran prioritizes constructive interaction, with a particular focus on working with friendly nations to combat terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking:

“The Islamic Republic of Iran considers itself a responsible, independent and influential actor… supporting dialogue, multilateralism and cooperation to promote peace, stability and sustainable development.”

Turning to domestic progress, Dr. Delkhosh described what he called remarkable accomplishments in science and technology, paired with the expansion of Iran’s diplomatic relationships across the world.

He detailed advancements across several critical areas of national development: Increased healthcare coverage, Broad self-sufficiency in pharmaceutical production, Progress in national housing projects, Improved access to safe drinking water, Expanded communication infrastructure.

According to the Ambassador, these efforts collectively represent industrial self‑sufficiency and steady national progress, which he said have meaningfully improved the everyday lives of Iranian citizens.

In the most intense portion of his speech, Dr. Delkhosh recounted the events of June 2025, when, according to him, Iranian territory came under military attack at a moment when nuclear-related negotiations had already advanced through five rounds with plans for a sixth.

He stated that the attacks were carried out by the Israeli regime, and were later followed by direct U.S. involvement, targeting peaceful nuclear sites, urban infrastructure and civilian populations.

“More than a thousand civilians, along with senior military commanders, were martyred in these assaults,” he said.

Invoking international law, he described Iran’s subsequent response as decisive and lawful:

“In accordance with its right to self-defense, the Islamic Republic of Iran responded decisively.”

The Ambassador stated that the offensive ended after 12 days, concluding in a ceasefire.

Despite the turmoil described, Dr. Delkhosh stated that Iran continues to pursue a balanced, principled approach to foreign policy.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always attached great importance to strengthening relations with friendly and like-minded countries.”
