COLOMBO (News 1st): The University Grants Commission (UGC) says it is working to expand access and to admit students with disabilities, to all universities.
Chairman of the UGC, Professor Kapila Seneviratne said all universities will be equipped with the necessary facilities to accommodate students with special needs.
Currently, only a limited number of universities admit students with disabilities, however, according to the UGC Chairman, future plans include enrolling them in subjects such as Information Technology and Music.
Meanwhile, the Chairman added that the UGC is considering an upgrade to the student accommodation facilities across universities.
A sum of Rs. 1.5 billion has been allocated for the development of residential infrastructure.
