CID Tracks How Lawyer Bought Rs. 25M Vehicle

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) presented an update before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court regarding the progress of investigations into Attorney-at-Law Thamara Kumari Aberathna, who is currently in detention in connection with the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa.

CID officers made their submissions when the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.

Investigators informed the court that a luxury motor vehicle, valued at approximately Rs. 25 million, seized at the time of the suspect’s arrest, had been registered under the name of another individual.

However, CID investigators confirmed through their inquiries that the vehicle belongs to the attorney.

According to submissions made in court, although the vehicle was registered under the name of Wilfred Disanayake, his statement to the CID revealed that the vehicle had in fact been purchased with the attorney’s own funds.

The CID further told the court that investigators are currently probing the source of the money used by the suspect to purchase the vehicle.
