COLOMBO (News 1st) A Bell 212 helicopter from No.7 Squadron, SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, successfully airlifted an individual who had been stranded atop a coconut tree in Aukana, Anuradhapura, since yesterday evening.

The man climbed the tree to escape rising floodwaters triggered by adverse weather and the spilling of Kala Wewa, which inundated surrounding areas.

With ground access impossible, the Sri Lanka Air Force launched three sorties to complete the mission, ensuring the individual’s safe evacuation.

SLAF officials confirmed that the rescued person is now in a secure location, and air operations continue to support flood relief efforts in affected regions.
