COLOMBO(News 1st): A rally organized by several opposition parties is scheduled to be held at the Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in Nugegoda. Organizers said all opposition-representing parties have been invited to participate.

Several politicians visited the venue this morning to inspect arrangements. While some politicians from parties including the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna are expected to attend, former UNP MP Ashu Marasinghe noted that many frontline leaders, including the deputy leader, will not participate.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Hector Appuhami confirmed that his party has taken a policy decision not to join the opposition coalition rally.

However, trade union leader Ananda Palitha stated that the party’s working committee has not decided against holding the rally today.

The rally comes as a large crowd is expected in Nugegoda, coinciding with the GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examinations being conducted at several nearby centers. Students are scheduled to sit for the Political Science paper from 2:00 p.m. to 5:10 p.m.

Speaking to the media, parents urged politicians to organize meetings in a manner that would not disrupt students taking this crucial examination.
