COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala announced that Sri Lanka has strengthened its fight against cybercrime by establishing regional cybercrime investigation units under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The initiative began on April 25, 2025, with the launch of a Cybercrime Investigation Sub-Unit at the Jaffna Headquarters Police Station, covering the Northern Province.
In addition, a central cybercrime headquarters has been set up for the Western Province, while other provinces now have dedicated sub-units:
Central Province: Kandy
Southern Province: Matara
Eastern Province: Maha Oya
North Western Province: Wariyapola
North Central Province: Anuradhapura
These units are tasked with investigating computer-related crimes.
