COLOMBO (News 1st); Despite repeated warnings to create strong passwords, millions of users continue to rely on weak and predictable combinations.

A recent study by Comparitech, analyzing over 2 billion compromised accounts on data breach forums in 2025, has revealed the most commonly used passwords – and the findings are alarming.

Leading the list are ‘123456’, ‘admin’, ‘password’, ‘qwerty’, and ‘India@123’.

The report states that ‘123456’ alone was used by over 7.6 million people, while ‘admin’ appeared in more than 1.9 million accounts.

Researchers noted that “human laziness has made password guessing as easy as ABC and 123.”

The report comes just days after revelations that the Louvre Museum’s core security system was protected by the password ‘LOUVRE’.

According to Microsoft, a secure password should:

Be at least 12 characters long
Include uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols
Avoid names of family members, products, or popular characters
