COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his son Ramith Rambukwella, daughter Amali Nayanika Rambukwella, and a domestic aide were served indictments today (17) in two separate cases filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The indictments were presented before Colombo High Court Judge Mohomad Mihal.

The charges allege that during his tenure as a Cabinet Minister, Rambukwella facilitated the inclusion of outsiders into his private staff payroll, diverting their salaries and allowances into his personal bank accounts—a move that allegedly caused substantial financial loss to the state.

Following the indictments, the court ordered each accused to post Rs. 50,000 cash bail and two sureties of Rs. 1 million each, while imposing a travel ban on all defendants.

The preliminary hearings for these cases have been scheduled for January 12 and 14.

In a separate case involving only Keheliya Rambukwella and his son Ramith, indictments were also served today (17).

Following the indictments, the court ordered each accused to post Rs. 50,000 cash bail and two sureties of Rs. 1 million each, and the pre-trial conference for this case is set for January 20.

The Bribery Commission alleges that these acts amount to corruption and aiding and abetting under Sri Lankan law, signaling a strong stance against abuse of public office.
