900,000 Families Identified as Homeless - Minister of Housing and Construction

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, has revealed that there are approximately 900,000 homeless families in the country.

He noted that an additional 100,000 new families join this group each year, underscoring the growing demand for affordable housing.

The Minister stated that several programs are currently being implemented to help these families achieve home ownership, adding that steps will be taken to expand existing housing assistance schemes for low-income families who are unable to build houses on their own.
