COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Customs has reported that vehicle imports have generated a staggering Rs. 587.11 billion in revenue so far this year, contributing to 37% of the department’s total income over the past nine and a half months.
The figures were disclosed during a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Committee on Ways and Means, chaired by MP Vijesiri Basnayake.
According to customs officials, as of October 14:
55,447 motor cars were imported, generating Rs. 474.26 billion in tax revenue.
7,331 goods transport vehicles brought in Rs. 48.67 billion.
142,524 motorcycles contributed Rs. 30.37 billion.
15,035 three-wheelers accounted for Rs. 15.10 billion.
1,679 passenger transport vehicles, including buses and vans, added Rs. 12.66 billion.
