COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya held bilateral discussions with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, on the sidelines of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women 2025.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed Sri Lanka’s gratitude to the Government of China for inviting the Sri Lankan delegation to the summit and for the warm hospitality extended throughout the visit.
Dr. Amarasuriya emphasized that the engagement provides an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
She also briefed Premier Li on Sri Lanka’s recent progress in debt restructuring negotiations with the Official Creditors’ Committee and acknowledged China’s continued support during the country’s economic recovery.
Highlighting the importance of China’s role as a key development partner, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to ongoing and proposed projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), noting their contribution to national and regional connectivity and socio-economic development.
