COLOMBO (News1st); Employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) continued their trade union action by reporting sick leave en masse, marking the second phase of their protest citing 24 demands, including a call for proper restructuring of the CEB.

The unions began their “work-to-rule” campaign on September 4, and escalated the action yesterday with over 10,000 employees reporting sick leave.

According to union representatives, today the remaining 50% of the 21,800-strong workforce joined the protest.

Among the key demands are:

-Ensuring no reduction in financial or non-financial benefits for employees under the new Electricity Act
-Addressing the Rs. 25.06 billion deficit in the employee pension fund before the stipulated deadline
-Guaranteeing all trade union rights under the Labour Law

Despite the protest, many employees and officers were seen reporting to work, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
