COLOMBO (News 1st): SSP Satheesh Ranjan Hiyare Gamagé has been ordered to be remanded until September 30 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama, following serious bribery allegations.

Appearing on behalf of the Bribery Commission, Assistant Director of Legal Affairs Thushitha Jayanetthi stated that investigations have uncovered evidence showing the suspect had illegally deposited Rs. 25.2 million into multiple personal bank accounts.

It was further revealed that the suspect had obtained a Rs. 25 million loan from a state bank, which was allegedly repaid in full using funds acquired through bribery.

Jayanetthi also noted that investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals who deposited money into the suspect’s accounts.

She emphasized that the suspect had abused his official position to obtain bribes, and requested the court to remand him further, citing concerns that he may influence witnesses and that additional statements still need to be recorded.

Representing the suspect, the defense attorney argued that the Bribery Commission’s charges were unjust, and requested that his client be released on reasonable bail.
