COLOMBO (News 1st); former Chairman of the Wattegama Urban Council, Ravindra Bandara, and an associate, Lakshitha Manoj Weerabahu, have been released on bail following their arrest in connection with the fraudulent import and registration of two Jeep vehicles.
The order was issued by Teldeniya Magistrate and District Judge Ruwan Indika Silva, who granted bail under two conditions:
A cash bail of Rs. 25,000
A personal surety of Rs. 500,000
In addition, the court imposed a travel ban on both suspects and instructed them to surrender their passports to the court.
The arrests were made on September 13 by officers from the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau, following an investigation into the alleged illegal registration of imported vehicles.
Investigators revealed that Lakshitha Manoj Weerabahu is closely linked to former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte.
