Scholarships for Migrant Workers’ Kids Close on Sept 15

COLOMBO (News 1st); Applications for scholarships aimed at supporting the children of Sri Lankan migrant workers will close on September 15.

Eligible students include those who have passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L), or the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L), and are currently pursuing higher education at a university or technical institute.

The scholarship amounts are as follows:

Rs. 25,000 for students who passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam.

Rs. 30,000 for students who passed the O/L exam.

Rs. 40,000 for students who passed the A/L exam.

To qualify, the child’s parent must have been registered with the relevant foreign employment bureau and engaged in overseas employment between January 1, 2019 and September 15, 2024.

A total of 1,628 students are expected to benefit from this initiative, with over Rs. 50 million allocated for distribution.
