Sri Lanka's Ex-President Ranil Remains Under ICU Watch

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe remains under medical treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, where a high-level security operation has been activated by the Department of Prisons.

Prison Spokesperson Jagath Weerasinghe confirmed that seven jailers and four prison security officers have been deployed to ensure Wickremesinghe’s safety within the hospital premises. Medical officers from the prison hospital are also closely monitoring his health condition.

Deputy Director of the National Hospital, Dr. Rukshan Bellana, stated that a specialized team from the Intensive Care Unit is actively involved in safeguarding the former president’s health.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and several opposition representatives visited the hospital to check on Wickremesinghe’s condition.

The former president was recently remanded until August 26 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura, following allegations of misusing Rs. 16.6 million in public funds for a private overseas trip.
