Sri Lanka to Scrap Controversial Anti-Terror Law

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is set to officially repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) by the end of September, according to a statement made in Parliament by Minister Vijitha Herath.

The move comes as part of the government’s commitment to human rights reform and its pledge to replace the decades-old law. 

The PTA has long been criticized for enabling arbitrary detention, coerced confessions, and abuse of power.
