Ranil Summoned Over Alleged State-Funded Private Trip

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been summoned to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (22) in connection with an investigation into an alleged misuse of government funds.

The inquiry pertains to a private overseas trip said to have taken place on September 22 and 23, 2023, which reportedly involved ten individuals including the former President.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the CID has previously recorded statements from Saman Ekanayake, the former Secretary to the President, and Sandra Perera, who served as Wickremesinghe’s private secretary during his tenure.
