COLOMBO (News 1st): Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Priyantha Jayakody has been taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over allegations of fabricating death threats involving a known organized crime figure.
The arrest follows a recent incident in which Jayakody claimed that Kehelbaddara Padme, a suspected member of a criminal gang, had issued death threats to him and several others, including former Minister Tiran Alles and Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake, via phone calls and text messages.
However, CID investigations have revealed that the alleged threats may have been orchestrated under Jayakody’s direction, with another individual reportedly making the calls on his behalf. That individual has also been arrested and presented before court, according to police sources.
Following his arrest, Jayakody was hospitalized due to a reported medical condition, and is currently under medical supervision while in custody.
