COLOMBO (News 1st)l The Engineering Faculty of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka has been temporarily closed following a violent clash between two groups of first-year students on campus.
According to University Registrar M.I. Naufer, the incident occurred late on Sunday night (13) and resulted in five students being hospitalized with injuries. The injured were admitted to Oluvil and Akkaraipattu hospitals for treatment.
In a disturbing development, a group of students reportedly assaulted the ambulance driver who arrived to transport the injured, further escalating tensions.
University authorities, along with local police, have launched parallel investigations into the incident to determine the cause and identify those responsible.
